Subject: Staff Announcement - Idris Jala
Dear Colleague,
It is with some mixed feelings that I advise you of the following news: Idris Jala, Vice President for Shell Malaysia Gas and Power and the Managing Director of Shell MDS in Bintulu, will be externally assigned to fulfill the role of CEO and MD of Malaysia Airlines (MAS) effective 1st December 2005.
This prestigious appointment to one of corporate Malaysia's most leading positions has been made possible by an understanding between the Malaysian Government and Shell Malaysia. The appointment will allow Idris to undertake this assignment to address the significant challenges facing MAS in this difficult period for the airline industry. Idris is clearly well qualified to address the turnaround challenges facing Malaysia's national carrier and I am sure he will do a great job at MAS.
On behalf of Shell Malaysia, its staff and its management teams, I would like to register my thanks to Idris for his considerable - and continuing - contributions to Shell and Shell Malaysia thus far. I will very much miss Idris' contribution to our Country Co-ordination Team and the interactions we have had during the last two years. Please join me in wishing Idris and his family all the best in his exciting, new role. We will indeed miss Idris, but we look forward even more to charting his success at MAS, and to his eventual return to Shell Malaysia.
